KNOW WHEN TO PLANT YOUR LILY BULBS

One of the main keys as to how successfully you will be at growing lilies is knowing exactly when during the year you should plant your lily bulbs. Although it does depend on the climate that you live in, there are some general guidelines when it comes to deciding what time of the year you should plant your lily bulbs into the ground.

If you are looking to have your lily bulbs flower when you would normally expect them to, the best time for you to plan them is during the late fall or the early winter season. Of course, one important thing that you should know is that when you do decide to plant them, the ground should not be frozen, as this can have a very negative effect on the growing effects that you will get from your lily bulbs.

Overall, the most important thing that you should know about planting your lily bulbs is that you should not plant them too late in the year. If you do not ending up planting your lily bulbs soon enough, chances are that you will find that your lilies will not begin to flower later than you are expecting. Some ideal places for your lily bulbs include an enclosed porch, a greenhouse or even a garage or shed. While it is important for them to not freeze, it is also important for them to not be kept in conditions which are too warm.

MAKE SURE YOUR SOIL IS SUITABLE

Although you may not even realize it, one of the main keys to how successfully your lily bulbs will grow is the soil that you plant them in. Some of the things which you should consider adding to your soil in order to get the ultimate flower growth for your lily bulbs include manure, compost, and a low nitrogen fertilizer. It is also important to make sure that the soil which you decide to use is loose and does not contain too much moisture, for the best growing conditions. Note; if you use any Tub, I suggest you use some form of crocking.

KNOW HOW TO PLANT YOUR LILY BULBS

One of the main things which you are probably wondering is how you should plant your lily bulbs. Not only do you not want to plant them too close together, you also do not want to plant them too far apart from one another. An ideal amount of space between each lily bulb is between twelve inches to eighteen inches. Although they will grow no matter which way you decide to point them when you plant them, it is generally recommended to point the tip (otherwise referred to as the eye) of the flower up towards the surface for the best results. You should then cover the lily bulbs with about two inches of your ideal, suitable soil.

CARING FOR YOUR LILY BULBS

In order for your lily bulbs to grow, there is more that is required of you, of course. For starters, you are going to need to begin by watering your lily bulbs once a week. It is also important for you to make sure that you keep them well fertilized. I recommend "Terra Firma - Organic Life", between twice and three times a month. Make sure that the times during which you decide to fertilize your flowers are equally spread apart, as you cannot just decide to fertilize them two days in a row. For example, if you fertilize your lilies twice a month, you should do so every two weeks.
